Water park!
Last week some of the kids from Frances Gaskin orphanage had the opportunity to take a field trip. School was closing for the year, and their teachers wanted to reward them for all their hard work and studying. I was enlisted to help drive and chaperone 35 children from the orphanage and surrounding community to visit Liberia’s one and only water park.
Most of the kids have never even been to the beach, let alone a water park. Most of them haven’t even been outside of their little community. The car was full of gasps and cheers as many of the children saw the beauty of their county outside of Monrovia. The cheers turned to screams of delight as we pulled into the park and the colorful slides and play ground popped against the background of the gray, rainy day.
Taking a bunch of kids to a water park in Liberia during rainy season may not sound like the best idea, but these kids didn't mind the rain one bit. Once the lightning storm passed, they splashed, slid and swam for hours.
