Pigs, pigs, and more pigs!

What better way to celebrate the gift of a brand new pickup truck, but put it right to work? In the right hands, a pair of pigs can generate quite a bit of income for an orphanage. In this case, we actually served four orphanages in one big, convoluted transaction.

Cramer and I picked up four pigs from our good friends at two different orphanages in Monrovia, then dropped them off at a home up-country, where they joined an ongoing breeding program. In a couple of months, we'll take two of those along with another two piglets down to Greenville, to begin a breeding program at a fourth orphanage.

To receive pigs from our program, we require only two things: first, an orphanage director has to invest the time and money to build a suitable sty, and keep it clean; second, that orphanage is responsible for giving back the same number of pigs within the year, so that another home can also benefit.

Not only are orphanage directors getting a chance to start piggeries of their own, they're also seeing the benefit of all their hard work.

"...second, that orphanage

"...second, that orphanage is responsible for giving back the same number of pigs within the year, so that another home can also benefit."

Sustainability is how you are going to save the world. Programs like this may seem simple and small, but work wonders on a large scale.

8 pigs today can turn into 24 next year in 4 locations, and 2000 in 500 locations in just 5 years - and it all starts with 8 pigs and a smart idea.
