Michael's Story: A Call to Prayer
Michael is an 18 year old boy that I mentor within the Child Development Program. He is by leaps and bounds the brightest boy that I have had the privilege of working with. One of the first things I noticed about Michael was his gentleness with the younger kids at his home and his hunger for knowledge. Eventually, Michael started meeting with me one-on-one to study the deeper parts of the Bible, always showing up with lots of good questions. I know we aren’t supposed to have favorites in this line of work but, if I had to pick one, it would probably be Michael.
In the fall of 2009, Michael was diagnosed with liver disease and has since had an ongoing struggle with health. Now, things are looking as grim as ever. He was hospitalized about two weeks ago when his liver disease became chronic. He has since stopped responding to medicines, and the doctors have said that he might not live much longer.
I talked to Michael on Tuesday after he received the news. He said, "If God heals me, I will be okay, but if I die, I know I will have a resting place." Michael isn’t angry about the situation, and he doesn’t feel cheated by his condition. He is thankful for the life God has given him and ready to go Home if that’s where God calls him. So I’m asking you, on behalf of my friend Michael, to join with me and the rest of Orphan Relief and Rescue as we pray for his healing.
