What percentage of my donation will actually reach the children?
Orphan Relief and Rescue is committed to transparency and stewardship: we make every effort to keep overhead costs low in order to maximize the impact of your gift to the children of West Africa. In 2007, while Orphan Relief and Rescue was a division of Sharing Ministries International, an internal audit showed that over 80% of expenditures were directly to our programs in West Africa.
Our goal is to maintain the highest possible ratio while ensuring that our staff and programs are supported by appropriate, efficient administrative structures. Please see our Uniform Disclosure Statement, or simply contact us directly if you have questions. We would be happy to hear from you.
Where does faith come in?
In order to guide its programs as a faith-based organization, Orphan Relief and Rescue has included in its bylaws the following Principles of Practice:
We believe that we have a Biblical and human mandate to follow Christ’s example in serving the poor, the disadvantaged, and the vulnerable. (James 1:27)
We believe in rendering assistance without regard to the religious beliefs, race, age, or gender of our beneficiaries.
These principles, along with our Core Values, serve to guide what we do and how we do it -- specifically, how our faith affects our work. While some of our programs address spiritual matters and some are of a more practical nature, the guiding and sustaining motivation throughout Orphan Relief and Rescue is to reach others with God’s love, the same love that has transformed our own lives.
Does ORR host short-term teams in West Africa?
Interested in coming to Africa to see the work first-hand? Orphan Relief and Rescue offers short-term team opportunities for churches and small groups. Please contact our Teams Coordinator for a list of upcoming teams.
I'd like to host an event or fundraiser. Can ORR help?
Hosting a fundraiser is a great way to serve the children of West Africa, and we want to help make your event a success. Please contact our office to receive a fundraising packet and to discuss ideas for your event. There may also be an experienced Advocate in your area that can help--or you may want to become an Advocate!
Can I sponsor a child through Orphan Relief and Rescue?
Yes, you can now sponsor a child in Liberia or Benin. You can guarantee a child's place in school, as well as at the dinner table, for just $35 per month.
Can I adopt a child through Orphan Relief and Rescue?
Orphan Relief and Rescue is not equipped to assist in the international adoption process. We seek to empower caretakers to help children through a self-sustaining care model.
How would I give through a donor-advised fund, matching grant, or planned giving program?
If you would prefer to make a gift through one of these programs, please contact us. We will work with you to ensure that all the appropriate information is supplied in a timely manner.
Can I donate books, school supplies, vehicles, etc.?
Gifts-in-kind like these can be very helpful. Often supplies are difficult to obtain or costly in-country. However, shipping to Liberia is also very expensive, and many items can be purchased in-country for much less. Please contact us before planning an in-kind donation or drive to ensure that it is the best use of resources.
Can someone from Orphan Relief and Rescue speak at my church or event?
Orphan Relief and Rescue staff members are always happy to attend your event. We would love the opportunity to share first-hand stories and photos of the amazing work that God is doing in West Africa. Simply contact us to make arrangements!
