CDP Turns One Year!

This week marks the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Child Development Program. It began with a desire to get to know the older students at some of our homes, but has grown into a weekly program with 120 participants in 11 small groups at three different homes. The past year has been a learning process for us: learning to address social issues specific to orphanage life, learning lots of new names, and exploring options for education. Most importantly, though, and really the heart of the program, is the ongoing process of encouraging each child to believe that he or she is unique, special, and created by a Maker who loves us more than we can imagine.
I sat down with an orphanage director last week, and she talked about how her children seemed to take their education more seriously since the program had started. She also commented on how the program was fostering the kids’ self-confidence and value, stating, “They really know that they are important!”
Over the next year we hope to expand the program to include more individual mentoring and to actively pursue higher quality education opportunities. Thank you for your ongoing partnership that makes this and our other programs possible.
